Route Lemosho
Kili Tips
http://www.sherblog.es/losdelaocho/blog/?p=859
8 days of the Lemosho route through the Crater camp carried out with the company Jiwe adventures that we hire directly from here, which saves us the costs of intermediaries. This company took good care of us and their guides and, above all, the porters were amazing, they treated us very well, but the material they used gave us the feeling that everything was second-hand

Porter tips: 250-300.- $
GUIDES AND PORTFOLIOS (cost per group not per mountaineer)
The normal thing is:
1 guide and cook each group of 8 people
(guide $ 15 and cook $ 10 / day)
1 assistant guide for every 4 people.
The porters are usually
2 per person in the Marangu,
3 in Machame, Umbwe and Rongai
4 on the Lemosho route
(carrier 8 $ / day)
Ruta Lemoso 8 days for 2 people with 4 porters / pers. + Cook + 2 guides
TOTAL 2x15x8 + 10x8 + 4x8x8 = $ 576 between two
WHAT TO PACK
Each carrier can carry a maximum weight of 20 kg according to regulations of the National Park, this will be weighed at the hotel and also at the entrance to the National Park. Their packages must weigh 15 kg maximum, the remaining 5 kg will be supplies, as , tent, chair, food, water, etc. so we recommend that you do not exceed this weight, since otherwise it will be necessary to increase the number of carriers on those already contracted.
Very common error exceeded in the team.
Do not carry more than 15 kg of weight
Do not carry suitcases but canvas bags
Clothing see notebook "Team MONTAÑISMO"
• On the Lemosho route you are only 2 days below the 3,000 m the first and the last one so you have to foresee + winter clothes that summer.
• Protective cover for canteens on summit day the water freezes
• Front EYE! the frontal you will use it ALL the night the last day of rise (spare battery)
Emergency kit (see separate booklet)
• Electr. Converter three plugs plugs
Bag (See separate notebook)
• Moisturizer. The sun and wind during the safari dries the skin a lot. The use of mosquito repellent creams further accentuates the dryness of the skin
• Mosquito repellent for extreme conditions (Goibi, Relec ...) The best protection against mosquitoes is light colored clothing and long sleeves especially at dawn and dusk.
NOTE: For Kilimanjaro we only used it the day we were in Moshi and the first day, the rest was not necessary to be more than 3,000 m
FOOD AND DRINK
• Drinks are NOT included in the price
• The food must be well cooked
• Water is recommended to drink it bottled and avoid ice
• The boiling point decreases with height. At altitudes higher than 2,000 m the water should boil for 3 min (or add a chemical disinfectant after boiling it for 1 minute.
• Water treatment http://www.amse.es/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=293:potabilizacion-del-agua&catid=44:recomendaciones-generales&Itemid=90
• Drink plenty of water from 3 to 4 L per day. For Kilimanjaro I did not use a strong potabilizer but the normal one since it does not taste bleach and we did not have any problems. The camps are far from the rivers where they catch the water and these have clean water, we accompany the porters on a couple of occasions to catch the water
BOTIQUIN (see separate book)
It is VERY RECOMMENDED to take out a MEDICAL ASSISTANCE INSURANCE.
In case of a health emergency call Flyng Doctor`s Society of Africa (+254 727 337 337)
https://www.flyingdoctorsafrica.org/
They will come to your aid in any part of the country, they have planes to transport the sick.
The main tour operators are usually subscribed, make sure yours is.
• Water purification tablets
RECOMMENDED: Micropur Classic with silver ions with clean waters in winter (only for bacteria and does not add flavor) and Micropur Forte for more dubious waters (against bacteria + viruses + protozoa but adds somewhat strong flavor).
Do not buy iodine pills, they are banned in Europe because they are biocides and harmful to our health.
PREVENT ALTITUDE BAD
http://es.m.wikihow.com/prevenir-el-mal-de-altura
- Do not climb more than 2,743m altitude in 1 day.
- Do not sleep more than 305 to 610 m above the altitude you slept the night before.
- You must always spend an additional day of acclimatization for every 1,000 m
- Drink plenty of water 2 to 3 liters a day, starting a day before traveling. Take with you 1 liter of additional water during your ascent.
- Do not drink alcohol and avoid it during the first 48 hours of travel. Alcohol is a depressant and can slow down breathing and cause dehydration.
- You should also avoid products with caffeine, such as energy drinks and sodas. Caffeine can cause dehydration of the muscles.
- Eat properly, especially carbohydrates. This may include pasta, breads, fruits and potato-based foods.
- In addition, it is necessary to avoid excess salt.
It may be a good idea to improve resistance and physical conditioning before climbing the mountain.
However, studies have shown that there is no evidence that a good physical condition protects against altitude sickness.
