The Tracking is almost identical to what the AMAC did in the summer of 2013. We, we are 6 riders of the Association, who performed it a few days later. We spent the night at the refuge of Montgarri.
We leave Bagergue and go to the north, immediately we leave the asphalt to go along the track of Sta Margalida, which despite making a little back offers us a more pleasant terrain for us. We climb to the hermitage and return to the main track.
After passing the cows, we take the Liat track to the right. We walk parallel to the Unhola River, also known as the Riu Vermell. We continue along until the moment we pass to the height that the mentioned river saves the difference with a pair of jumps worthy of being contemplated.
We continue to the point where we leave the track to take the path that leads to Lake Montoliu and the hill of the same name. Here the path is narrow and drawn above a stone rock that demands a safe climb of the cavalcaduras. We move along an elevated mountain skirt, gaining height by the scrub until reaching a small plain where the meadows begin.
We go up the well-marked path to Lake Montoliu. On the lake we cool the legs of our horses with the water glazed and continue up to the neck.
From Coll de Montoliu we can contemplate the steep gradient that we will have to lower to go to Montgarri following more or less the route of the first stream Arriu de Vernatar, and below Arriu below Horcath. It is a terrain of high mountain meadows with eroded paths and quite well defined that they drain down.
Below we cross the river and take a narrow path that leads to Es Cabau, where we take the wide track to Montgarri.
We spent the night in the refuge Amics de Montgarri. The horses rest in chambers under the hazel board next to La Noguera Pallaresa.
The next day we drop off from the track of the previous day to go down the western side of the Noguera Pallaresa towards Bagergue. It is a very foggy day and we can not contemplate the views of the mountains that surround us from Pla de Beret. We intend to go to Baix de Baciver lake, but bad visibility helps us to decide to go directly to our starting point following the GR 211, which borders the busy road without practically seeing it.
We arrived at Bagergue following GR marks without any difficulty.
It is a route with the difficulties of the high mountains. There is some delicate step for the narrowing of the paths that skirt the slopes of the mountains with a lot of slope.
At the Seixes de Bagergue hotel (973 64 54 06 www.seixes.com), we have been able to contact people from the village that have Prats and grass for horses.
