Mount Armaghan is an extinct volcano on the southeastern slope of the Geghama Mountain Range in the province of Gegharkunik. Armaghan stands at 2,829 m, with a crater that is 50 m deep, almost 400m wide and now contains a lake. The mountain is composed mostly of andesite, silica and ash and the landscape consists mostly of alpine and sub-alpine meadows. The beautiful landscapes around the mountain, as well the picturesque lake at the summit, make Mount Armaghan an absolute must-see among the mountains of Armenia. Armaghan is also a popular pilgrimage site among locals, who visit the volcanic lake for a swim during the annual Vardavar Water Festival.
